Local Senedd member, Laura Anne Jones, has welcomed news that the Conservative Government plans to double the maximum penalty for those assaulting an emergency worker from 12 months to 2 years.
The plans will offer greater protection to frontline emergency workers and deliver stronger punishments to those guilty of assaulting them.
Commenting, Laura Anne Jones said:
“The debt we owe to our emergency workers has never been greater.”
“Every day they risk their lives to protect ours. Yet they face being punched, kicked or spat at.”
“I fully support the UK Government’s plans to increase the maximum sentence these criminals face.”
“It is totally unacceptable that our emergency workers should have to deal with such behaviour while doing their duty and keeping people safe.”
